CRL Preservation Analysis of Electronic News: Mapping the Newspaper Industry in Transition

In the print era research libraries have played an important role in preserving newspapers for scholarly research. With the ascent of the Web as a major locus of news reporting and distribution, however, traditional preservation models can no longer ensure future access to the journalistic record. A recent CRL study, produced for the Library of Congress, describes in detail the “lifecycle” of electronic news, as the basis for formulating viable strategies for preserving news in electronic formats.
