Pop Culture Universe

Pop Culture Universe is a reference database created to present popular media and culture in a scholarly context. The database contains short entries about people, places, and important events; various media formats; and some primary source material. The database’s browsing features work well, but not all of the content can be accessed browsing. Its search functionality could use some improvement, especially the advanced search. While the content is unique, most entries are too superficial to benefit an academic user, even an undergraduate student. No explanation is given as to how content is selected, with famous popular culture figures being left out altogether. The previous version of the database was much better and more centered on popular culture.
