LibChat: An Add-on Module for SpringShare’s LibAnswers

LibChat is a synchronous virtual reference service sold as an add-on for Springshare’s LibAnswers. The service allows libraries to set up multiple virtual reference queues as well as individual chat widgets for patron/librarian communication. Operators can monitor the virtual reference queues, transfer patrons to other operators, and use canned messages from a single interface. Chat widgets are highly customizable so they can be designed to match individual library Web sites. The product includes powerful and easy to use statistical analysis tools that can facilitate staffing and planning. As a Springshare product, LibChat is fully integrated with other virtual reference tools available through LibAnswers (depending on subscription level) as well as LibAnalytics and LibGuides.
